A cautionary tale…
Out on the usual weekend ride on their tandem, the Directors of Ultimate U were enjoying a crisp, cold but dry cycling day when Fiona exclaimed to John, “oh that pub looks good – let’s stop there! (The George at Piercebridge for those who know it).” Ever obliging, John manoeuvred the bike towards the pub and Fiona was getting warm feelings about the delights she would soon be drinking and eating, when John (usually an expert tandem handler) got caught out by a pesky curb.
Outside the pub there are cobbles and Fiona and John were tossed from the bike and skidded across the cobbles which ripped through their clothing leaving them both in pain, bewilderment and disbelief. Thankfully no serious damage although Fiona’s bruising is especially bad (!) and even though John has had to take time off with his right hand resembling a side of Ham (not an easy reference being vegetarian) they are keen to get out there again this weekend.
So next time you are going to a pub for lunch at the weekend, watch out for out of control flying ‘tandemists’ – they’ll do anything to get to the bar first!
